Biography

Marcos Duprat was born in Rio de Janeiro, where he started his artistic training at the workshop of the Modern Art Museum – MAM. He pro- gressed in his painting and drawing and pursued his Ma- ster in Fine Arts at the American University, in Washington, D.C., where he had his first one man show in 1977. As a diplomat, after his stay in the United States he lived in Lima, Milan, Budapest, Montevideo, Tokyo, Cape Town and Kathmandu. In Brasília, he was in charge of the Division of Cultural Promotion at the Ministry of External Relations, from 1982 to 1986, and in Rio de Janeiro, of the Historical and Diplomatic Museum at Itamaraty Palace, from 2008 to 2011.

Among his solo exhibitions in Brazil, of special note, are those at the Museum of Art of São Paulo – MASP (1979 and 1988), at the Museum of Contemporary Art – MAC (1995), at the Pinacoteca do Estado (2006) and at the Museu Brasileiro da Escultura – MuBE (2015), in São Paulo. In Rio de Janeiro, he had main shows at the Centro Cultural Correios (1995 and 2008), at the Instituto Cultural Villa Maurina (1996), at the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (1999), at the National Library (2016/2017) and at the National Museum of Fine Arts(2017).

Exhibitions in other cities include Milan, at the Centro Culturale San Fedele (1990); Budapest, at the National Museum (1993); Montevideo, at the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo (1999); Tokyo, at the Teien Metropolitan Art Museum (2002), and Kathmandu, at the Sidhartha Art Foundation (2013). Duprat has also had several shows in galleries in Brazil and abroad, and his work features in museums, cultural centers and private collections around the world.
